Abstract
The Craimoosweiher in nothern Bavaria (Germany, between Nürnberg and Bayreuth) is an under european habitats directive (FFH-RL) protected pond and belongs to the Natura 2000 network. The adephagan waterbeetle fauna of this area and a smaller area (Flachweiher) 6 km to the north was investigated in the years 2000 and 2005 to 2007. In the Craimoosweiher area we found 45 species of adephagan waterbeetles of which 10 are rare or protected (red list). In the smaller Flachweiher area we found 34 species with 8 on the red list of Bavaria. In total we found 10 red list protected species (Haliplus fulvus, Hygrotus decoratus, Hydroporus neglectus, H. longicornis, Agabus congener, A. unguicularis, Graphoderus cinereus, Acilius canaliculatus, Dytiscus latissimus, D. circumcinctus). Especially the record of the first instar larvae of the FFH-species Dytiscus latissimus is remarkable. D. latissimus is a very rare species and the last record for Bavaria was in 1993 in Willerszell near Ascha. There are only a few recent records in central and northern Germany, northern Netherlands and Poland for D. latissimus. A short summary on the biology of D. lattisimus, its distribution and recent records in Europe are presented. Furthermore we provide a key to determine the first instar larvae of D. latissimus and other Dytiscus species.
