This contribution reports on modeling efforts undertaken to reveal the functional principle of a ceramic hydrocarbon sensor based on a Cr2O3-zeolite coated interdigital capacitor. Both finite element and equivalent circuit models have been investigated. The results confirm that the gas sensing effect is strongly linked to the presence of the Cr2O3 layer.
