Abstract in another language

Stringent emission limits require exact on-board diagnostics of automotive exhaust gas aftertreatment systems. Recently, a novel approach to determine directly the conversion of an oxidation catalyst was proposed. A dense ion-conducting membrane with mixed-potential electrodes on both sides “compares” the gas atmospheres up- and downstream of a catalyst. Lab tests showed that the measured signal depends only on catalyst conversion and not on the gas concentration. For further investigations it is required to realize a single, self-heated device. It is shown how such a sensor device is designed by FE simulations. After building up the device in high temperature co-firing ceramic (HTCC) technology, measurements proved the ability of the sensor device to determine directly the catalyst conversion.
