Abstract in another language
Corporate social performance (CSP) is often discussed as a way to help attract recruits and to motivate and retain existing workforce. In this paper, we structure the field of CSP-Human Resource Management (HRM) research by joining the two important streams on potential and current employees into one meta-analytical review. We add to the CSP-HRM literature by resolving the questions a) if and b) under which institutional conditions CSP has an effect on organizational attractiveness and employee attitudes and behavior. Our results suggest that, generally speaking, CSP is positive related to organizational attractiveness (? =0.36) and employee attitudes and behavior (? =0.40). However, these effects are highly heterogonous and significantly depend on the institutional setting and study specific moderators. Particularly, the ability of firms to attract potential employees through CSP is positively affected by the level of rule of law and limited governmental size. Moreover, the type of CSP (e.g., principles versus practices) moderates the effect of CSP on employees? attitude and behavior.Corporate social performance (CSP) is often discussed as a way to help attract recruits and to motivate and retain existing workforce.
