Abstract in another language
A mechanistic model to describe the hydrocarbon sensitivity of perovskite SrTi1−xFexO3-δ thick films at intermediate temperatures between 350 °C and 450 °C is presented. In contrast to the mechanistic model of n-type semiconductors, i.e., sensors of the Taguchi type, a novel microscopic mechanism is proposed. Rather than limiting electronic interactions with reducing gases to space charge layers near the sensor surface, the material bulk is assumed to participate in gas sensing. From a technical point of view, thick films prepared with nano-scaled sol-precipitated powders are of particular interest in this study. These films present very good sensor characteristics, which is also described with the novel model.
