Reducing food losses (FL) has become an urgent matter to enable the sustainable development of our society. Highly perishable products such as vegetables are vulnerable to FL along the supply chain. This case study analyses causes for FL in a regional vegetable supply chain (VSC) in Franconia to identify weaknesses and best practices. The findings reveal the necessity to find a common definition of FL and to improve FL data collection and assessment. Additionally, this paper provides guidance to practitioners, authorities and academics where measures need to be set to reduce FL in the future.
