Abstract

Based on interview data, documents and literature research, collected within my PhD thesis (Vollmer 2023), this talk presents selected post-PISA 2009 developments in the Indian education sector. It discusses how the concept of international large-scale assessment got further domesticated after India’s participation in the OECD PISA 2009 Plus project. Briefly, it offers insights into reflections of experts on India’s first participation in PISA. The analysis of the interview material shows that socio-cultural constellations (networks) are ever changing, new formations emerge, influential positions are shifting, and likewise centres of knowledge. They have taken their voice there, as one expert mentioned. With people, things are on the move, too. The decision for and the incorporation of the Item-Response-Theory (IRT), a basic concept of international-large-scale assessments, in the National Achievement Survey can be seen as one development in relation to taking part in OECD’s PISA (see Vollmer 2019b).
